Provo River, Utah fly fishing report for October. Fly fishing on the Provo River at this time of year is incredible and is what Utah fly fishing is all about. Fall in the Park City area is in full swing. The hills are red, orange and yellow just like our resident brown trout. The weather has been perfect with cool mornings and warm afternoons. Excellent fishing conditions.
With the cooler temps in the morning we’ve been seeing a good midge hatch as soon as the sun hits the water. Size 24-26 midge larva in lighter colors have been best. Blue Winged Olives have started to make a showing in the afternoon. The last of the PMD’s for the season are still hanging on too.
The BWO’s will hatch through October and into early November. The best hatches will be on cloudy days but the little olive mayflies will hatch daily. Size 22-24 nymphs and dry flies are best. Nymphing and dry fly fishing has been great and should just get better. Afternoon is best for your chance to fish dry flies. Nymph fishing has been good all day.
Don’t miss out on your chance to fish the Provo River this Fall. If you’re visiting the Park City or Salt Lake City area give Jeremy Allan Fly Fishing a call for a guided fly fishing trip.
